Simply a "Must Visit" for anybody interested in the formation of our country. The most amazing thing about Monticello is the sense that this place feels like a contemporary home not one built 200 years ago! Despite the obvious brilliance of Thomas Jefferson you can also see the dark side of this enigmatic former President with the exhibits devoted to the slaves of Monticello. Please visit as soon as you can!

We have just returned from a one week stay in the Colonial Williamsburg area and all share the desire to return. While there we also visited Jamestown and Yorktown and owing to our awakened interest in the Colonial period we made a one day trip to Monticello. (Well worth it).

Cumberland Gap offers the outdoors enthusiast various opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and camping. The National Park is simply beautiful, and the views from such places as Tri-State Peak are stunning. The small town of Cumberland Gap, TN has a few shops and a nice, down home restaurant. Middlesboro, KY offers a few brand hotels and restaurants, as well as the P-38 Lightning museum. There are several museums of other sorts in the area, and one should visit Martin's Station State Park in TN. But the main focus should be on the mountains and hiking them to enjoy their serene beauty.

The Park preserves the mountain pass used by Indians, and later by settlers moving west. Known as the Wilderness Road, it became the route westward for pioneers from North Carolina. Agecroft Hall and Gardens
On the rolling banks of the James River in Virginia stands a remarkable Tudor estate. This manor house was actually built in Lancashire, England in the late 15th Century. For hundreds of years, Agecroft Hall was the distinguished home of England's Langley and Dauntesey families. At the end of the 19th century, however, Agecroft fell into disrepair, and in 1925 it was sold at auction. Hearing of this tremendous opportunity, Richmonder Thomas C. Williams, Jr. purchased the structure, and had it dismantled, crated, and shipped across the Atlantic, and then painstakingly reassembled in a Richmond neighborhood known as Windsor Farms. Today, Agecroft Hall stands beautifully re-created, in a river setting surrounded by beautiful gardens.
